Hello June!

🌾 🌾

Hi everyone!

First off, I want to send a big sorry for the silence on this page lately. It’s been a whirlwind few months filled with work, market preps, and of course—getting everything ready for Kaamatan 2025! Between yarn, orders, and cultural celebrations, time just flew by.

But today, I’m back with something truly close to my heart: how the Alawa Set made its mark this Kaamatan season—and why it means so much more than just a fashion piece.

✨ What is the Alawa Set?

If you’re new here—welcome!—the Alawa Set is a crochet ensemble I designed inspired by traditional motifs, natural tones, and the spirit of our Kadazan-Dusun heritage. “Alawa” means “beautiful" or “cantik” in the local dialect, and that’s exactly what this set is about: wearing something that reminds us of the beauty of who we are and where we come from.

This year, I wanted to do more than just create pretty pieces. I wanted to help people feel connected—to culture, to family, to the old memories and to do it in a way that still feels modern, wearable, and uniquely you.

🎉 Kaamatan 2025: More Than Just a Festival

Kaamatan has always been about celebrating the harvest, yes—but more deeply, it’s about community. And this year, more than ever, I saw people craving that connection. Whether it was the sound of the gong, the smell of hinava, tuhau, bambangan, the taste of tapai, montoku everywhere, there’s something magical about seeing everyone come together.

It was during this festive atmosphere that the Alawa Set found its home. From market stalls to family gatherings, I can see people wearing it with pride. Not just as an outfit—but as a statement.

đź‘— Fashion with Purpose: Wearing Our Culture Proudly

I truly believe fashion can be meaningful. That it can be both beautiful and rooted. The Alawa Set isn’t just about style—it’s about showing the world that we’re proud of our heritage. That our traditions deserve to be seen, celebrated, and passed on.

It warmed my heart to hear people say things like:

“This reminds me of what my mom used to wear long ago, but it feels so fresh!”

“I wore it for Kaamatan and people kept asking where I got it!”

These little moments mean the world to me. Because they show that crochet can be more than a hobby—it can be a way of preserving culture and making it fashionable again.

💬 What’s Next?

I’ve got a few mire new design and I can’t wait to share them with you. I’ll also be updating this space more regularly now that things have settled down a bit. Thank you so much for your patience and continued support!

Whether you’re here as a fellow crocheter, a culture lover, or just someone looking for something meaningful to wear—I see you, and I appreciate you.

untill then,

With love & yarn,
